For too long, the standard for recovering failed payments in SaaS has been "Dunning": a cold, automated process of spamming generic emails until a customer either pays or leaves.

The Origin Story

From Manual Grind to "Retention Engineering"

Domu was founded by Nico Diaz and Camila Zancanella with a simple observation: the "collections" industry was broken. It was built on pressure, anxiety, and robotic scripts.

During their time in the trenches of financial operations, they discovered a counter-intuitive truth. The highest recovery rates didn't come from the agents who made the most calls; they came from the agents who mastered tone.

They realized that the difference between a "churned user" and a "renewed subscriber" often came down to milliseconds of pacing and a single word choice. They founded Domu (backed by Y Combinator) to turn this human art form into a scalable science.

Our Approach: The Science of "Yes"

We engineer retention using three proprietary pillars.

1. Psychoacoustic Retention

We believe the sound of a voice matters as much as the script. Our agents are engineered with:

• Adaptive Pacing: Speaking at a measured 135 WPM to lower anxiety during check-ins, and accelerating to 155 WPM to build momentum during renewals.
• The "Focus" Micro-Pause: Inserting 75ms silences before key terms (like "account access") to subconsciously prime listener attention.

2. Lexical Architecture

Language is a trigger. We have deprecated the hostile lexicon of "Debt Collection" in favor of "Success Servicing."

• We replace "Past Due" with "Account Health Check."
• We replace "Payment Plan" with "Resolution Structure."
• We never shame. We solve.

3. Deterministic Security

In an era of "hallucinating" AI, we don't rely on luck. We reject "VibeSec" (prompt-based safety) in favor of Deterministic Compliance. Our security controls sit outside the AI model, redacting PII and verifying policies with mathematical certainty before a single byte of data is generated.
